GPT-5.2 Unveiled: Faster, More Accurate, More Powerful

OpenAI has responded to Google’s Gemini 3 Pro move with GPT-5.2. Here are the innovations offered by GPT-5.2, featuring advanced accuracy, stronger analysis capabilities, and three new model options

On the same day it announced the Sora licensing agreement with Disney, OpenAI introduced its new model, GPT-5.2. The company describes this model as the most competent system for professional use in real life to date. OpenAI stated that the model offers significant progress in areas such as “preparing spreadsheets, creating presentations, writing code, visual perception, understanding long content, using tools, and executing multi-step projects.”

Advanced Performance and Benchmark Results

According to 10 different benchmark tests shared by OpenAI, the most advanced version, GPT-5.2 Thinking, surpassed GPT-5.1 by a wide margin in many areas.

  • In the AIME 2025 test, it achieved 100% success by correctly answering all 30 challenging math questions. This result exceeded GPT-5.1’s 94% performance and was achieved without using tools.
  • In the ARC-AGI-1 test, an increase of more than 10 points was observed in abstract thinking ability compared to GPT-5.1.

More Accurate Responses and Suitability for Professional Use

OpenAI states that GPT-5.2 Thinking makes 30% fewer errors when answering factual information. This development makes the model more reliable in research, writing, analysis, and decision support processes.

Enhanced Conversation Experience

GPT-5.2 Instant, the version users will encounter most frequently, has been optimized for speed and practicality. According to OpenAI, the model has been significantly improved in areas such as:

  • Information searching,
  • How-to content,
  • Technical explanations,
  • Guides,
  • Translation and text generation.

Additionally, the warmer and more fluid conversational tone that came with GPT-5.1 Instant has been preserved and improved.

Expectation and Competitive Pressure Following GPT-5

Released in 2025, GPT-5 did not meet user expectations and received criticism for weak responses and a “dull personality.” This dissatisfaction even led to demands for the return of GPT-4o.

During this period, Google’s Gemini 3 Pro model settled at the top of the LMArena ranking, while OpenAI’s GPT-5.1 model was in sixth place. Following this situation, it was reported that Sam Altman’s team was directed to a new improvement process with “code red” priority.

Expectations with GPT-5.2

OpenAI aims to differentiate itself from competitors in scale with agreements signed for over $1.4 trillion in infrastructure investments. In a note sent to employees, Altman stated that GPT-5.2 would be on the same level as Gemini 3 Pro. With the model’s release, how this claim will play out remains a matter of curiosity.

Three Different Versions Being Rolled Out

OpenAI is offering GPT-5.2 with three options:

  1. GPT-5.2 Instant
  2. GPT-5.2 Thinking
  3. GPT-5.2 Pro

These versions will first be opened to paid plan users. Additionally, GPT-5.1 will remain available in the “older models” section for three months.
